Gain flattening filters (GFF) are used in design high performance optical amplifiers or ASE light sources that offer flat gain spectra or flat output light spectra.

Erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA), EDF based ASE light sources, Raman amplifiers or other fiber optical amplifers.
